Monument of a Poem by Emperor Hirohito

Through the rain I see the dim figure of Kashima in the distance

Which reminds me of Kumagusu who was born in Wakayama

In May 1962, on his trip to Southern Wakayama with Empress Nagako, Emperor Hirohito, looking at Kashima Island from a distance, composed the poem in commemoration of the meeting with Kumagusu more than 30 years ago.

The monument stands in front of the museum.
