Osakaya Ryokan Inn: Based in this Japanese-style inn, Kumagusu spend his time trekking in the area and collecting fungi and algae every day. He never let a single day pass without going out for research, if rainy or windy. He sometimes didnft come back even after dark, and the worried people from the inn searched for him in the neighborhood.

Daimon-zaka: the gateway to the ancient Kumano Road: In Nachi Kumagusu often walked along the ancient Kumano Road and collected fungi. In Nonaka, Nakahenro-cho on the road, Ippoh-sugi, 800 years old cedars were once on the verge of being cut because of the shrine consolidation regulations but were eventually saved thanks to the efforts of Kumagusu. |

Nachino-taki Falls: It was when Kumagusu was collecting lichens at the bottom of this large waterfall, also called Ichino-taki, that he first met Shiro Koaze. Koaze, as a devoted disciple, gave Kumagusu lifelong support in his research on slime molds. |
